en route to manila - my hometown...my playground for the first 19 years of my life...the place where i've met the people that i'm still very good friends with up to this very minute. and i feel nothing but pain.

i have this row all to myself. row 54, seats A, B, and C. having this much space icarb enclosed area gives me time to think. time to process and prepare myself for what i would call the absolute worst thing i have to endure so far.

she's 90. she was in the hospital for about 2 months. pneumonia and then complication after complication. they discharged her 2 weeks ago because she was getting better. everything is being arranged for the recovery road. we thought she really was getting better. thoughts can lie.

within 5 hours upon getting the unfortunate news, flights were booked. my phone went off at 4 in the morning. i got the news by way of twitter. 2 tweets that included the word "condolence" in them from friends who care deeply about my family.

"fuck. oh my god. holy fuck. shit. fucking shit."

those were the only words that my brain could command my lips to open to.

"my grandma is gone."

all i could do was lay there in darkness. i wanted to drown. i didn't know i could feel such pain. luckily, i have my bestfriend next to me. she was very helpful and consoling. i don't know what i'd do without her.

at that very moment, memories of mamang (grandma) came rushing to me. she was never your typical doting grandma who bakes you cookies and makes you quilts for christmas. nope. and yet not one of her 26 grandchildren complained about that fact ever. she loved and cared for us in her own way. nobody knows really if she favored any of her grandchildren because none of us felt unloved. however, i can still remember my mom telling me a story of how mamang would tell the other kids to not touch the mangoes coz she's saving them for me.

when mamang used to have chickens, every sunday morning that we're visiting her, she would call on those chickens with this chickenly something sound that she makes. for us grandkids, that means one thing..."time to get up and start doing the house chores!" we all hated it. those mango leaves were total pain to get rid of off her backyard. we all complained and mumbled and yet we'd all still do it. the reward? beach time for 4 whole hours!

on monday evening, i checked facebook. i wanted to see what my cousins changed their status message to. everyone wrote something different. and from those, you can tell what kind of relationship each of her grandkids had with her.

i asked my sister, ailee, if she cried when she first heard about mamang's passing. she said it made her sad right away. and then eventually the thought of mamang not being there anymore made her even more sadder. it kills her, she said.

mamang is a pretty cool grandma to joke around and have fun with. she wasn't perfect but she was more than enough for us. i love the fact that she was different in her own little way. she may be stubborn at times but we all loved her for it. never will i ask for another grandma.

goddamn it, just typing 'was' instead of 'is' is breaking my heart.

i will miss you so much, mamang. can't wait to fistbump with you again. in that morning...in that bright morning...someday...

last night, we took tina out for her stagette. it was fantastic! it's so nice to be amongst friends that you don't see often enough anymore. but most importantly, it's great that everyone came out for tina. one of our friends even drove her 6 months pregnant self from athabasca. lol. lisa (the one with the sexy bedroom voice) from red piano took care of us superbly well. totally tipped her good. kinda awkward though when she asked for my name and i had to explain it to her.

good food, good alcohol, too much dancing, sore feet. i love it!

my parents are flying to los angeles next week for my uncle allen's 50th. he's my dad's bestfriend. they've been friends for over 33 years now. they have each other's backs since day one.

i'm in awe of how they've managed to stay friends all these years...most specially during those times when there's no such thing as facebook. from raising their own families and moving from here and there all over the world and not seeing each other for years, their friendship stayed the same. losing touch is very foreign to them.

over the years, i became really picky with the people who i keep close. learning from my past? mos def. i have friend friends. i also have those beyond amazing friends who i can fully trust my future only child with. you know what i mean? man, i wish the friendships i have now will last, if not longer, just as long as 33 years. that'll be uber sweet.

we're very lucky to have all these different means of communication around us. u.ti.lize. text your hombres. it'll mean so much.

last night, i had one of the most amazing nights of my life. too epic for words. i spent the entire evening with jodie - the most bestest (is that word?) friend one could ever be blessed with. seriously, be jealous of me because i have her. teehee.

we started the night at our friend shauna's going away party. so sad that she's leaving...but still mad yays for her coz she's moving on to more greater things. all the best, shauna! (yep, that pinoy celeb style shout out just happened.) after our last hugs with shauna, we went to jodie's new crib (fuck yeah i said crib. do people still say crib?). this is uber exciting because now jodie has a mortgage to take care of. she's growing up more. the main reason i'm sleeping over was to help her unpack. that didn't happen.

ever had that moment when you feel very iffy about a drink and then when you put it in your mouth....bam! you have fireworks of delicious everywhere? that's exactly what happened to us! three olives root beer vodka. yeah buddy! we got drunk enough (actually a lot drunk) to do shauna's photo/video request. us doing sink shots.

and then we decided to chill in the tub. so fucking comfy! we sat there for over an hour. talked about life and stuff. had more alcohol. lady gaga played on repeat. had more alcohol. had a toast for the douchebags. got hungry and walked our assess to the store....in the rain. walking in the rain sans umbrella was super fun. i can't remember the last time i frolicked in the rain. aside from food, we also bought a pack of smokes. neither of us smoke. we did last night though. so badass we shared a stick hahaha. took photos along the way...on the tree, behind the tree, with the road warning sign, with one leg wrapped around the light post, with the questionable object covering thing on the sidewalk, etc. yeah it's pretty low key. bwaharnot!

i loved last night so much i want to get it pregnant! for serious! jodie and i, even if it's only the two of us hanging out? man, we always always have a blast. though she makes fun of me excessively, she's still my bestfriend. i'm so humbled and blessed and honoured to call her.....my whore. err...to have her in my life.

surprising people

almost every morning, i pick up breakfast at the tim's by my work building. and almost every morning, i see this regular customer. he usually just sits there and enjoy his hearty breakfast. he didn't look grand nor friendly. on monday morning, a homeless (i assume he is coz he looked the part) person came in. out of nowhere, mister regular customer walks up to him with a bag of food and a big cup of coffee. the look on the homeless face was priceless. that is something you don't see everyday. let alone on a monday.

i was taken aback by what i saw. then it got me thinking......have i done enough for somebody else? how many times have i shunned the oppotunity to help a stranger? how many random acts of kindness am i willing to give for the rest of my life? have i been very nice to people? shown pure kindness and love to my family? accepted my friends for who they are? am i good enough? i don't know. there's a lot to learn from people. people who are different from what i know i am.

i need to do something radical. something way out of my comfort zone. something i think is beyond me.

i can happily say that 2010 is one of the best years of my existence! tons of wonderful things happened this year. humbling amazing things that i will be forever grateful for.

in 2010...

...our family was so blessed to have become canadian citizens. we've been residents of canada for more than 5 years now and it's been nothing but great. praise God! yay!

...travels! i'm very blessed to be able to go see and experience different places. in the summer, i got to go back to new york city and california. i was also very fortunate to have met my dear twitter friend, dianne, on a 4 hr layover in seattle. so as, neane, when i was in new york. they're both awfully great! and right now, as i'm constructing this new year blog, i'm breathing parisian air ;) i'm blessed to be spending the holidays with our relatives in england. this trip to paris is an added bonus.

...friends! i continue letting the good ones in my life. they are blessings. blessings that I keep very close to my heart. i may be a bit of an ass sometimes but, damn it, i am a good friend! lol. and yes, i still include each of my friends in my prayers. speaking of friends, i lost a dear one this year =( you will always be missed, ching. see you in the morning!

...weddings! the entire family flew to the philippines for my cousin sharon's wedding. i was one of the bridemaids. what a grand wedding, that was. lots of food, drinks, dancing, and laughter. i forgot how much fun it was to be around my cousins. and in the summer, i flew to socal for claudine's wedding. she's one of my bestfriends. she and johnson had a very intimate wedding. a night of celebrating love and new beginnings with their family and closest friends.

...i kinda met someone....and then it flopped lol.

...i got to see my cousin joshua before the year ended. it's been 8 yrs since the last time i saw him. sans awkwardness! amen!

almost 3 weeks ago: sunday morning. woke up much earlier that i normally do. went to the can. tried to go back to sleep. checked facebook. and then there. i was floored by the shocking news of ching's passing. i tried to talk myself out from believing all those facebook posts from our common friends. wishing it was a dream, i shakingly picked up the phone and called manila. it is true. ching is gone. gone.

i feel really bad for her brother, clyde (who is one of my very close friends). he didn't get to say bye to her. it's really heartbreaking and very unfair.

the outpour of love, support, and prayers for her family was overwhelming. it really sucks though that she's gone too soon. i know she could've done more amazing things. i also know that He has a plan set out for those around ching, most specially for her family.

my favorite shared experience (jimmy fallon-ing it) with ching? hands down, that time when we almost drowned in the river. we were about 10 or 11 at that time. we all just laughed our heads off after it happened. we do know how to care less, yes.

everybody misses you ching! you are a unique soul.

it is thanksgiving today here in canada. to me, it kinda feels like christmas sans the gifts and the tree. the food. the food is what overwhelms me usually. since our family moved here, our thanksgiving celebrations has been co-celebrated with my middle sister's birthday. double rainbow. i know.

family. words aren't enough to share with you how much thankful i am for the blessings that's been bestowed to me and my family over the years. there's no such thing as perfect family, but we strive to make it work. i am forever grateful to them for enabling me to stay as sane. my family never liked those things called "drama." so please, to our "bored" relatives, keep your negativity to yourselves and leave us alone. as my mom would always say "kung ayaw nila e di wag. basta ako, i'll stick with what i know is right." (translation: "if they don't want to, fine. as for me, i'll stick with what i know is right.")

friends. i've collected a proud amount of good ones over the years. to tell you the truth, sometimes i'm taken aback by how wealthy i am in the friends department. they are all sorts of awesome goodness and i will never ever trade them for beer flavored waffle ever. not gonna happen in this life, neither on sims 3 world adventures.

air. the true absolute ability to breathe. nothing will top that.

matthew morrison's performance of "all i need is the girl" was superbo! the first and last performance of this song that i saw was on stage when i went to see gypsy. it was with tony yazbeck and laura benanti and i loved it! too all you theatre noobs who are on the glee wagon, matthew wasn't lip synching, it's called a head mic. if you look closely, the mic is tucked underneath his blonde locks. and fyi: lip synching at the tonys is very VERY much frowned upon.

katie finneran gave the best speech of the night. she gave the most practical version of the saying "dreams do come true." "focus on what you love because it's the road map for an extraordinarily blissful life...you'll meet the right teachers and fall into the right circumstances to meet someone who shares that love with you," that's pretty much what katie said. i was so ever happy that my baby sister heard first hand, what katie said. she has big theatre dreams....huge. watch out worldizerd!

worst speech? denzel washington. sir dude, know who the award giving body is next time. kthnxbai.

this is cathedral of st. john the divine, located in the upper west side of manhattan. i was floored when i saw this building. the gothic architectural style is just amazing.

i took this photo with a point and shoot camera, olympus stylus 720 sw. as the saying goes: it's not in the camera all the time, it's in the photographer too....and the components and the balance and all that technical shit.

flight attendant fail. i asked for a cup of water...she went to get me one but ended up giving it to the girl in front of me. girl: "ummm...wtf?"

who would've thought that they'd only serve seafood and pork on the first meal? what happened to chicken and beef?

After tonight's broadcast and after looting our hotel mini-bars, we're going to try to brave the blizzard and fly east to home and hearth, and to do laundry well into next week. Before we leave this thoroughly polite country, the polite thing to do is leave behind a thank-you note.

For your (mostly) beautiful weather.

For scheduling no more than 60 percent of your float plane departures at the exact moment when I was trying to say something on television.

For not seeming to mind the occasional (or constant) good-natured mimicry of your accents.

For your unique TV commercials -- for companies like Tim Hortons -- which made us laugh and cry.

For securing this massive event without choking security, and without publicly displaying a single automatic weapon.

For having the best garment design and logo-wear of the games -- you've made wearing your name a cool thing to do.

For the sportsmanship we saw most of your athletes display.

For not honking your horns. I didn't hear one car horn in 15 days -- which also means none of my fellow New Yorkers rented cars while visiting.

For making us aware of how many of you have been watching NBC all these years.

For having the good taste to have an anchorman named Brian Williams on your CTV network, who turns out to be such a nice guy.

For the body scans at the airport which make pat-downs and cavity searches unnecessary.

For designing those really cool LED Olympic rings in the harbor, which turned to gold when your athletes won one.

For always saying nice things about the United States...when you know we're listening.

For sharing Joannie Rochette with us.

For reminding some of us we used to be a more civil society.

Mostly, for welcoming the world with such ease and making lasting friends with all of us.

we may have not owned the podium (coz rona built them. hence, rona owns them) but we sure did took home the most gold medals. and yeah it's a record too. 14 gold medals...BOOYAH!

i carry each of our wonderful athletes in my heart with so much pride and joy. from alex bilodeau's gold (which happens to be canada's first ever gold medal in home soil) to sidney crosby's epic gold winning shot in hockey...awesomeness!

joannie rochette's lost and olympic victory was every canadian's battle. we all fought with joannie and we won.

the sportsmanship that every athlete showed was really commendable. ever heard of sara renner's 2006 winter olympics story? here, read...

Norwegian coach Bjørnar Håkensmoen gave Sara Renner a ski pole after hers was broken when a competitor stepped on it during the cross country team sprint at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Norway's athlete ended up fourth, implying that this selfless act of sportsmanship may well have cost the Norwegian team a medal. Renner gave Håkensmoen a bottle of wine as a thank you, while other Canadians responded with phone calls and letters to the Norwegian Embassy. Canadian businessman Michael Page donated 8,000 cans of Maple Syrup to the Norwegian Olympic Committee to show his gratitude. The incident was immortalized in a 2010 Winter Olympics television commercial.

canada sure does have more square feet of awesomeness per person than any other nation on earth. the true north, strong, and free - that is canada.

accident dos for 2010

2 weeks ago, my dad got in an accident with my youngest sister on board and two other kids. it was not their fault.....AT ALL. their car was in complete stop and then comes this car #1 hitting car #2 that ends up being catapulted onto my dad's car, hitting the driver's side thus making the airbags deploy.

my dad is ok (thank god) and so as his passengers. but the lady on car #1, she started seizing after the crash so my dad called an ambulance for her. 1 passenger on car #2 was hurt too. nothing too serious though.

accident uno happened last month. my mom's left back tire was hit by a car while making a turn. she ended up making fishtales and then almost tipping over the fj cruiser on top of a big snow bank...on the other lane.
